C21.13  Bancroft, H.H.  Bancroft’s Map of California, Nevada, Utah and Arizona.  San Francisco, H.H. Bancroft & Co., 1863/64. First thus, Pocket map, 18mo gilt and blindstamped cloth, folding lithograph with full wash color, 32” x 36”.  Few discreet fold separations, overall an exceptionally clean and bright copy with vibrant color. Not in Phillips Maps, Eberstadt, Graff, Soliday or Rosenbach.  $3,800.00
Very scarce first edition, presumed second state of this superb map.  Overwhelmingly precise detail of the delineated area being derived from Bancroft’s earlier and larger map of the Western States.
This copy bearing the 1863 California copyright notice with an advertisement or “J.H. Colton’s Maps & Atlases” on the front pastedown.  A fine production displaying a nearly overwhelming amount of information.

C21.18  Ide, Arthur W.  Ide’s Map of Helena Montana.  Helena, Williams, Thurber & Co., 1888.  Pocket map, stiff printed wraps, folding lithographed map in colors.  Few very small fold intersection breaks, lightly toned overall, overall about fine.  $875.00
Fine plat map of Helena compiled and drawn by Helena surveyors Reeder & Helmick on a scale of 300 feet per inch and published in Minneapolis for Arthur Ide by Harrison & Smith.
Fascinating cartographic item given that the city of Helena contained more millionaires per capita than any other U.S. city at this date.  This copy issued compliments of Wallace & Thornburgh Real Estate Agents who claim to be “…exclusive agents of most of the North and East side Additions…”    Ide also published a map of Missoula, Montana in 1891.  Both productions appear to be rather scarce.  Not in Eberstadt, Soliday, Streeter or Phillips.
