C21.11  Kimber, Thomas  Rail Road Map of the Southern States Shewing The Southern & Southwestern Railway Connections With Philadelphia.  Phila., Thomas Kimber Jr., 1862.   First edition, 6 segments on original linen with marbled outer panels, lithograph with  wash and outline color, 30.5” x 52”.  Not in Phillips Maps, Modelski or Stephenson Civil War.  $2,800.00
Very rare and important Railroad map being the true first edition, first state of the more widely recognized Willis Hazard map.  Given the highly detailed and accurate delineation of southern transportation routes, Kimber’s map was likely regarded extensively by Union troops during the Civil War and proved invaluable in locating military supply routes.  Shows from the eastern seaboard west to include the whole of Kansas and most of Texas.  Lithographed and presumably colored by P.S. Duval & Sons.  World Cat locates three copies, one each at LoC, Harvard and Penn State.
